Selenium is an essential trace element in animal nutrition, and exerts multiple actions related to animal production, fertility and disease prevention. Selenoproteins protect cells from damage inflicted by free radicals, the cause of many chronic diseases. They also participate in the metabolism of thyroid hormones, control reproductive functions and exert neuroprotective effects. In addition to its anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory properties, selenium stimulates the immune system. Selenium deficiency contributes to pathological changes in animals. Low selenium levels can lead to the development of nutritional muscular dystrophy, exudative diathesis as well as dietary necrotic liver degeneration and mulberry heart disease.
Currently, organic form of Selenium, Selenium Yeast, has been used to animal feed, but there are some disadvantages with this form: the organic Se in selenium yeast is not just around 63% of the total selenium, and the quality of different batches of selenium yeast from a sample factory maybe significantly different.
We have developed another Organic Selenium, that is, Selenium Methionine Chelate. In this form of organic selenium, one se ion was bound to four methionine molecules and this has formed ring compound with proper structure. We are the first one in China to have developed the technology to make 4:1 Selenium Methionine Chelate.
